Work from Mysuru: a guide for Bengaluru and Pune professionals

Moving to Mysuru, or coming for a few weeks? How to get here, what it costs, how reliable the internet is, and where to work.

Last updated November 2026

The short version

Why people work from Mysuru

Mysuru is roughly 140 to 150 km from Bengaluru. Many people who work for Bengaluru or Pune companies on remote or hybrid terms live here, or come for a few weeks at a time. Some grew up in the city and moved back. Others come for the slower pace, shorter commutes and lower rent.

This guide covers the practical questions: how to get here, what it costs to live here compared with Bengaluru, how reliable the internet and power are, and where to work once you arrive.

SproutBox is a coworking space on the 4th floor of Mall of Mysore, open since 2015. We wrote this guide, so the last section is about us. The rest is general advice that applies wherever you choose to work.

Travel

Getting here from Bengaluru and Pune

By road

The Bengaluru–Mysuru expressway has cut the drive. Door to door it typically takes about 2 to 3 hours. Most of the variation is in getting out of Bengaluru. The expressway is tolled.

KSRTC runs frequent buses between the two cities, including air-conditioned services. Cabs and self-drive rentals are easy to book.

By train

Several trains run daily between Bengaluru and Mysuru Junction. The faster services, such as the Shatabdi and Vande Bharat, typically take about 2 hours. Others take closer to 3.

Mysuru Junction is a short auto or cab ride from Mall of Mysore. Check current timings on IRCTC before you travel.

By air

Mysuru Airport (Mandakalli) has a small number of domestic flights. Check current schedules.

Most people fly into Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, and continue by road. Allow about 3 to 4 hours from the airport to Mysuru. From Pune, flying to Bengaluru and driving or taking the train on is usually the most practical route.

Living costs

Cost of living compared with Bengaluru

For most people, living in Mysuru costs less than living in Bengaluru. Rent makes the biggest difference. Commuting time is the second.

We do not publish rent figures because they change by area and by month. Compare current listings for the neighbourhood you want with what you pay now. Talk to a local broker or a friend in the city before you sign a lease.

Some costs do not change. Flights, electronics, online subscriptions and most branded goods cost about the same as in Bengaluru.

Usually lower

Rent for a comparable flat. Day-to-day travel, because most of the city is a short drive or auto ride. Eating out at local restaurants.

About the same

Flights, phones and laptops, subscriptions, most groceries and fuel.

Plan for

A deposit on a rented flat, a power backup for home (see below), and a workspace if home is not quiet enough for calls.

Connectivity

Internet and power

Home fibre broadband from the major providers is available in most residential areas of Mysuru. Coverage can vary street by street. Check that a provider serves your exact address before you sign a lease, and ask neighbours how reliable it is.

Keep your phone's mobile data as a backup for important calls.

Power cuts happen, more often during storms in the monsoon. At home, a small UPS for your router and laptop keeps you online through short cuts. For longer days of calls, work from somewhere with its own power backup.

SproutBox has 1 Gbps internet and power backup, so a power cut in the area does not end your working day.

Workspace

Where to work: home, cafés or coworking

Home

Good for: focused solo work, early or late calls with other time zones.

Watch for: noise, family interruptions, power cuts, and the lack of a proper desk and chair.

Cafés

Good for: an hour or two of email, or meeting someone informally.

Watch for: background noise on calls, few power sockets, shared Wi-Fi, and the unwritten rule that you keep ordering.

Coworking

Good for: full working days, video calls, a proper desk and chair, meeting rooms when clients visit, and people around you.

Watch for: the cost, and the commute if the space is far from where you live.

Plans

Day pass or monthly desk?

If you are in Mysuru for a few days, or come in once or twice a week, day passes make sense. If you work from a desk most weekdays, a monthly plan costs less.
